Q.The Bible teaches in first church that they sent out disciples in 2’s . Are there any mentions of a person being sent by God alone? And what about the Old Testament?

THE AI RESPONDS:

NEW TESTAMENT

Yes, you are correct that in the Bible, particularly in the New Testament, there are instances where disciples or apostles were sent out in pairs. One notable example is in the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Mark, where Jesus sends out the Twelve Apostles in pairs to preach and minister to the people (Luke 10:1, Mark 6:7).

However, there are also instances in the Bible where individuals are sent by God alone. The example of the Apostle Paul’s conversion and subsequent mission to preach the Gospel is one such case. As mentioned earlier, Paul (then known as Saul) was on his way to Damascus when he had his encounter with Jesus Christ. After this encounter, he was commissioned by Jesus to be His chosen instrument to carry the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 9:15).

Paul’s calling and mission were unique to him, and he embarked on his ministry as an individual. Although he later partnered with other believers and traveled with companions such as Barnabas, Silas, Timothy, and others, his initial commissioning and his journey to Damascus were solo experiences. Paul’s ministry played a significant role in spreading Christianity throughout the Roman Empire.

So, while the sending out of disciples in pairs is a common pattern in the Bible, there are instances where individuals were specifically chosen and sent by God alone, like in the case of the Apostle Paul.

Q. What about in the Old Testament?

AI REPLIES

In the Old Testament of the Bible, there are also examples of individuals being sent by God alone. One notable example is the prophet Elijah. In 1 Kings 17, Elijah is introduced as a prophet sent by God to confront King Ahab of Israel and to announce a severe drought over the land. Elijah appears suddenly before Ahab and delivers the message from God, without any mention of him being accompanied by someone else.

Later in the same chapter, God instructs Elijah to go to a specific place where He will provide for him during the drought. Elijah obeys and goes alone to the Brook Cherith, where ravens bring him bread and meat each morning and evening. This shows that Elijah was sent by God and sustained by Him, all by himself.

Another example is the prophet Jeremiah. In Jeremiah 1:4-9, God speaks to Jeremiah, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah was chosen by God and sent as a prophet to deliver God’s messages to the people of Judah and the surrounding nations. Although Jeremiah faced great opposition and hardships in his prophetic ministry, he carried out his mission as an individual, sent by God alone.

These examples demonstrate that in the Old Testament as well, there were instances where individuals were selected and sent by God alone to fulfill specific roles and missions.

TD NOTES: TO CLARIFY “ALONE”

THEY’RE BUILT DIFFERENT

The use of the term “alone” does not mean”aloof” “unfriendly” ‘have a chip on their shoulder” “not part of the community of believers” not walking in full unity with the other Believers” or a “lone warrior who believes that they “know more” NOR it is person who never seeks the wise advice from another NOR is it one whom, should they be able to find any these “normal, natural true persons ” to hold themselves accountable to (very loosely without being under any other control). PLUS it may mean that due to the demonic, that in order to self guard God’s calling, that these will need to be very careful about whom they allow to fellowship with and/or being private friendship circles, all relationships.

TO ME, persons of this ‘CALLED “DIFFERENT” KIND appear to be made like this for some particular reason God needs this as they are like a “specialist” or “special ops’ field. ‘by God mysterious great unmerited, inexplicable grace.

Apostle Paul was Galatians 1:1-2 “no sent out by any one person or any one group” ..(like this myself) and he, both of us are servant leader cross body of Christ office ministers, but are Ephesians 5:21 “mutually submitted in the fear of the Lord ” with all others!

Also, perhaps “God uses the foolish things of this world, to confound the worldly-wise” (After all Paul the apostle referred to himself as ‘the off scouring, the dung of this world”) (The Christian Odd Ball)

I Corinthians 1:27-28 NKJV “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are.”
